Advocate Spotlight: Ann Brado

Making a difference in the lives of children is not new for CASA of Luzerne County volunteer Ann Brado.

Not only is she a positive influence in the lives of her own children and grandchildren, Ann worked for 40 years in the area of special education – which first introduced her to the CASA program through contact with advocates.

Once Ann and her husband retired, they moved to NEPA and she made the decision to become a CASA volunteer herself.

“After moving our entire lives with the military, it’s fabulous to find a way to feel part of the community,” Ann said. “CASA has brought community, new friends, and a feeling of purpose to my life.”

Ann graduated from CASA training at the end of 2017 and was sworn-in early this year. Since then, she’s been working tirelessly on behalf of the three children she advocates for. And those kids are making as much of an impact on Ann’s life as she on in theirs.

“Everyone can make a difference,” she said. “If you can’t work directly with families, there is always another way to make a difference.”

After spending some time with Ann, it’s easy to see how she believes that. She embodies the kinds of qualities that make her exactly the kind of advocate the children in Luzerne County need.

If you want to join Ann in making sure that every one of the abused and neglected children in the Luzerne County court system is safe, secure, and given the opportunity to thrive, we’d love to talk to you. Our next information session is scheduled for Monday, July 9 at noon. Please send us an email or give us a call at (570) 855-2247 so we can reserve your seat.

Save the Date -- An Evening in CASAblanca

For the third year in a row, our community is coming together to support CASA of Luzerne County and its mission to provide a qualified, compassionate volunteer advocate for each and every abused and neglected child in Luzerne County.

This year's event, An Evening in CASAblanca, promises to be even more exciting and spirit-filled than in years past.

We hope that you'll join us on Thursday, September 20 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at The Room at 900 in Forty-Fort to eat, drink, enjoy the gaming tables, and hear stories from people who know first-hand the positive effect CASA has in the lives of the families we work with.

The CASAblanca gala provides our program with the funds we need to recruit, train and support the volunteer advocates who so generously give their time to ensure that children who have endured abuse and neglect have a consistent adult committed to speaking up for their best interests.

We are so thankful to all our sponsors, especially our Hero sponsor, M&T Bank, for their support for the third year in a row. We could not do this without this wonderful community. Together we are all working to change the lives of children in Luzerne County who are so in need.
