Be a Superhero this Independence Day at the Scrantastic Spectacular celebration on Courthouse Square in downtown Scranton! We will be conducting the second annual Wendy's Superhero 5K and Kids Dash at on July 3rd. The 5K course begins and ends at the Lackawanna County Courthouse - home to live concerts, food vendors and the Entercom Communications Fireworks display. Runners and walkers will race out of town on Washington Street and then run/walk along the Scranton Riverwalk until crossing the Lackawanna River and finishing in front of the courthouse. Athletes will get a free tech shirt, age group ribbons and free snacks and refreshments after the race. And a special award will be presented to the best dressed male and female superhero!
The kids fun run will take place on Spruce Street beginning at 6:45. Kids will run 200 yards, 400 yards or 800 yards depending on their age. The first 200 kids get free superhero capes and free finishers medals. Face-painters will be available to help with last minute costume enhancement.
Joining Wilkes Barre Racing will be representatives of Luzerne and Lackawanna County CASA as well as other foster and adoption agencies. Learn how to be an advocate for children in foster care. Come for the run - stay for the fun! Fireworks begin at sunset and concerts begin as soon as you finish the race.
