Meet the contestants: Britney Cheskiewicz

Britney, 16, not only wants to be a voice for kids during the NEPA Sings competition, but she has hopes to one day become a family court lawyer to help kids who need it.

“It’s really rewarding (to be part of NEPA Sings),” she said. “That’s why I auditioned in the first place. It’s all for the kids!”

Britney has been interested in performing from an early age and currently serves her community as Miss Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s Outstanding Teen, and is a member of the Wyoming Area Drama Club.

“It would mean the world to me (to win),” she said. “I’m looking for something to jump start my career and maybe this is it.”

“Helping kids is a vital part of my identity,” said 21-year-old Talia.

A neuroscience major at King’s College with hopes to become a pediatrician, Talia is a cheerleading coach, and a proud big sister who discovered her passion for singing in elementary school.

“That’s when I realized that I loved to sing and that, maybe, I wasn’t too bad at it,” she said.

Since then Talia has been able to combine her love of music with her love of kids.

“It would be an honor to win the competition and be recognized locally for a talent that is so important to me,” she said.
