January News and Upcoming Events

CASA of Wyoming Valley has announced the appointment of Ryan Schofield as Executive Director and the promotion of Program Director Jade Levi to Senior Director of Operations.

This leadership transition positions CASA to expand volunteer advocacy for children in foster care across the region.

“I am honored to lead CASA of Wyoming Valley,” Schofield said. “Our volunteers change the trajectory of a child’s life. I join the CASA team with a simple mission: bring on more advocates, support them and make sure every child who needs a voice has one.“

Schofield, a Northeastern Pennsylvania native, brings more than a decade of experience leading volunteer efforts across Pennsylvania focused on cancer and Alzheimer’s causes. In his career, Schofield has helped raise more than $3 million and worked with patient advocates and lawmakers on policy supporting families affected by Alzheimer’s disease. He is a University of Scranton alumnus and resides in Lackawanna County.

Levi, who joined CASA in 2020 and has led the volunteer advocacy program since 2023, now transitions into her senior role with a wealth of frontline experience. As Senior Director of Operations, she will support staff and volunteers, strengthen day-to-day operations, spearhead advocate training, and help ensure children receive consistent, high quality advocacy.

Levi holds an MSW from Widener University and a BA from Misericordia University. She has extensive experience recruiting, training, and supervising CASA volunteers, as well as managing advocate caseloads in dependency court.

“I’m honored to step into the role of Senior Director of Operations for CASA. This organization’s mission and the dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community partners inspire me every day. I look forward to strengthening our operations in ways that support our advocates and, most importantly, the children and families we serve,” Levi said.

Complimentary Community Screenings of Brave the Dark

CASA of Wyoming Valley proudly invites the community to two complimentary screenings of Brave the Dark, a powerful and heartfelt film based on a true story of resilience, compassion, and hope.

Brave the Dark follows Mr. Deen, a dedicated teacher who discovers that one of his students, Nate, has been living out of his car and has landed in jail. What begins as a simple act of kindness—bailing Nate out—quickly becomes a life-changing commitment as Mr. Deen helps Nate confront the trauma of his past and overcome the inner struggles threatening his future.

Following each screening, attendees are invited to stay for a brief panel discussion featuring the filmmaker, CASA staff, and child advocates. Panelists will explore the film’s themes and discuss the real-world impact of advocacy, mentorship, and community support for children and youth who have experienced trauma.
