POSITION: Volunteer Advocate Coordinator

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

SALARY GRADE: $37,500.00 to $40,000.00

REPORTS TO: Program Director

SUMMARY:

The Volunteer Advocate Coordinator is responsible for the recruitment, supervision and support of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers in order to ensure the best quality volunteer advocacy for children in the juvenile dependency court system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Complete CASA training.

2. Recruit volunteers and advocates by:

  • Analyzing the County to strategically present the CASA concept to those
    residents who are the best potential volunteers and advocates;

  • Developing and utilizing a contact list of targeted persons and
    organizations;

  • Creating promotional pieces and presentations, and

  • Mounting a promotional campaign using the media, mailings, presentations
    and social media.

3. Screen, interview, and train new volunteers and advocates.

4. Select and assign appropriate advocates by:

  • Reviewing new cases and attending court hearings when appropriate;

  • Preparing and distributing assignment documentation, and

  • Assisting advocates with the development of initial case plans and on-going strategies for advocacy.

5. Supervise volunteers and advocates by:

  • Providing assistance and consultation as needed and when requested;

  • Assisting the advocates in the creation and distribution of court reports, and

  • Accompanying advocates to their hearings as well as child placement site visits.

6. Assist advocates and office staff in tracking case files and statistics.

7. Participate in evaluations of advocates, programs and positions.

8. Attend meetings locally, regionally, statewide, and nationally as assigned.

9. Provide on-going support for volunteers and advocates by:

  • Coordinating, facilitating , and attending in-service trainings;

  • Planning, organizing, and implementing events to recognize and appreciate their work, and

  • Advocating for them with Luzerne County Children and Youth Services and other professionals involved in their cases, as necessary.

10. Compliance with CASA operating policies and procedures.

11. Other related duties as assigned.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as multifunctional photocopiers, computers, phones, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time, exempt position. Regular business hours are Monday-Friday 8:30A-5P with a minimum of thirty-seven and ½ hours (37.5) hours per week with a one-half (1/2) hour paid lunch period. This position will require working outside of normal business hours as needed at the discretion of the Program Director and/or the Executive Director.

Travel

Travel is expected for this position. Mileage reimbursement will be made at the current IRS rate.

Required Education and Experience

1. Bachelor’s Degree; in a social service related or human resources field preferred.

2. Three (3) or more years of administrative experience along with supervisory experience.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must have access to a vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license.
